Do You Need A Legal or Non-Legal Test

 NON-LEGAL DNA TEST

A non-legal DNA test cannot be used for legal purposes. It is not admissible in court and it cannot be used to amend a birth certificate, for child support cases, or for other benefits. This type of DNA test is used only when a DNA relationship is suspected and all parties involved simply want peace of mind.

A non-legal DNA test is not recommended when the child is under 18 years old. If the child is under 18, consider a legal DNA test.

LEGAL DNA TEST

A legal DNA test is court admissible; whereas, a non-legal test is for peace of mind only. When you decide which type of DNA test is needed, you should consider what you might do with the results.

If you want the results of your DNA test to be used for court or immigration, the test must be done using strict chain-of-custody procedures. For a legal DNA test, all individuals must provide identification. In addition, a photo will be taken of each person at the time of testing.
